I’m glad to hear Billy was enjoying himself. If I had known that people would get so much enjoyment out of that, I probably would not have gotten mad enough to throw my notary stamp.

I will definitely be keeping those angry rants coming. Against my best effort, there WILL be more. Such is what you get working in finance.

Sincerely,
ARB–Angry Retail Banker

That was Dianne with the early comments logged in as me. I have updated her profile so it does not display my ugly mug next to her beautiful name. Fortunately for me she is the pretty one in the household!

I really enjoyed your guest post on our site. I get your frustration, rants, and humor. Your writing style is refreshing to read and definitely different from the rest of those in this PF blogging space. Please keep the rants coming.

I was out of state for the last two weeks spending the last 7 days with my friend “Billy” in Florida at his beach front condo. I watched him roll in his chair, suffering from deep belly laughs when he read your rant on the crappy customer and her check. ARB, don’t you know that you could have killed him, being that he is a retired at a an advanced 55 years of age. He signed up for your future blog posts on the spot.

Wishing you the best of luck with your 5 year journey to FI so you can present your middle finger to your banking employer, letting them know they are no longer #1 in your life. Your advice is spot on, start early and move from active to passive income. I know you can do it.

Take care,
Bryan

Nice to meet Bryan’s other (better??) half. I definitely agree with you on the way customers are. Some customers are just there looking for a fight. Had a guy call up today to pick a fight. I’m home right now, obviously, and as far as I know, he’s still on hold.

Employers love to dangle those carrots in front of us, right? If we just perform a little better, we’ll get a slightly higher bonus this quarter, stuff like that. Retail banking is terrible in that the “What have you done for me today” mindset is in full force. You make your goal, your goal increases next month/quarter. Miss THAT goal, and it’s like you haven’t shown up for work in three weeks. And as for stressing out about work at home, I feel like I should send my bank a bill for all the off-the-clock work I’ve been doing at home for no pay. I think I’d get a full paycheck out of it!

Glad you enjoyed my guest post. Thank you and Bryan for allowing me to guest post here!

Sincerely,
ARB–Angry Retail Banker

I really enjoyed reading your post and definitely can relate to the frustrations that come with customer service. It seems some customers think just because I am there to listen to their complaints they also have the right to insult and threaten me.

I too have stressed way too much over petty work situations during my time off and I have wised up to the illusion that if I perform well for just one more year there will be one more carrot waiting for me.

I’m envious of your early start on building passive income. I wish I started investing earlier.

Thanks for your humor and motivation to escape the rat race!

All the best to you 😀

Oh, and just call me “ARB” for short. The Angry Banker is actually another retail banking blogger, though from the UK.

Glad to see that you’ve achieved financial freedom. I hope you’ve been enjoying that newfound freedom.

Thanks for the read.

Sincerely,

I went FIRE 5OCT2012 at the tender age of 40. After three years, I can tell you the sacrifice was all worth it. Keep at it!
